Discipline Participation Guidelines

Discipline Specific Rules

Vocal Classical Solo/Duet [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • All Songs/Classical compositions must be in Kannada, Sanskrit or a composition of a composer from Karnataka .
  • Classical item can be either Carnatic OR Hindustani.
  • Contestants are responsible for bringing all necessary items such as shruti box, cables/wires or any electronic items needed.
  • Duet performance entries must be received as duet during registration and will be judged against other solo/duet performances. Once registered as solo/duet, the performance will be required to be solo/duet as part of the final round as well, i.e, once registered, you will NOT BE permitted to change from solo to duet or vice versa.
  • Contestants may choose to have accompaniment and are responsible for arranging it themselves. However this is optional. Judging criteria is based on the vocal performance alone and not on the accompaniment.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes .
Vocal Light/Film Music Solo [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • All Songs must be in Kannada
  • Non-classical item can be a Kannada Bhavageethe/Dasara pada/Vachana/Janapadageethe/Bhakti Geethe or a movie song.
  • Contestants can use Karaoke/Minus tracks for their performance.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Vocal Group Singing [Contest Type: IN person @Convention]

  • A group should have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 participants.
  • The performance can be a Kannada Bhavageethe/Dasarapada/Vachana/Janapadageethe/Bhakti Geethe or a movie song.
  • Contestants can use Karaoke/Minus tracks for their performance.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Instrumental Solo – Percussion [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • Percussion instrument players may use Karaoke background provided the song/composition is in Kannada (or Sanskrit).
  • Contestants are responsible for bringing all necessary items – including cables/wires or any electronic items needed.
  • The percussion instrument chosen may be a Carnatic, Hindustani or a western instrument
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Instrumental Solo – Non-percussion [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • All types of non-percussion are allowed.
  • Non-percussion instrument players must perform a Kannada or Sanskrit song/composition.
  • Contestants are responsible for bringing all necessary items – including cables/wires or any electronic items needed.
  • Contestants may choose to have accompaniment and are responsible for arranging it themselves. However this is optional. Judging criteria is based on the instrumental solo performance alone and not on the accompaniment.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes.
Dance Classical Solo [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • Must be an Indian classical dance form (Bharathanatyam/Kathak/Kuchipudi, etc.)
  • Language has to be Kannada or Sanskrit.
  • For kids age group, the contestants can present any item and abhinaya is not necessary.
  • The music can be lyrical (in Sanskrit or Kannada), or lyrics-free mnemonics vocal and/or pure instrumental
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Dance Classical Group [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • A group should have a minimum of 3 to maximum of 12 participants
  • Language has to be Kannada or Sanskrit.
  • For kids age group, the contestants can present any item and abhinaya is not necessary.
  • The music can be lyrical (in Sanskrit or Kannada), or lyrics-free mnemonics vocal and/or pure instrumental
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Dance Non-Classical Solo [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • Can be any kind of dance form (non-classical)
  • Language has to be Kannada or Sanskrit.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Dance Non-Classical Group [Contest Type: Online (prelim/semi’s) followed by IN person Finals @Convention]

  • Dance item can be of one of the forms – Kannada Filmy or Folk, etc.
  • A group should have a minimum of 3 to maximum of 12 participants.
  • The participation video duration for this discipline should not exceed 6 minutes
Creative Act  [Contest Type: IN person @Convention]

  • Kannada stand up comedy
  • Lip sync and dance like original stars
  • Impersonate kannada movie stars and known personalities
Visual Arts Solo [Contest Type: IN person @Convention]

  • Teams of two (Parent-child, siblings, etc.)
  • You may choose from Drawing/Painting/Rangoli/Sand Art/Cardboard
  • Creation/Vegetable or Fruit carving, etc.
  • The theme must represent “Karnataka”.
  • Art work may be created only on a card board/wooden plank (maximum size 3*3 ft).
  •  NAVIKA will provide the card board/wooden plank – utilization of the floor space for this purpose is not allowed.
  • Each contestant can occupy a maximum of 5×5 feet floor space to sit, place their belongings and create the art work.
  • All art work must be created from scratch at the contest (pre-sketching, etc. is not allowed).
  • Contestants have to get their own material towards their visual art
  • Participants are fully responsible for their own setup and clean up after the contest.
  • First come first serve basis (First 25-30 depending on the availability of space) will be allowed to participate.

 

*Note: Navika Nakshatra organizing committee holds the right to add/cancel any discipline of the Navika Nakshtra talent show based on the participation or logistical reasons. The competitions are governed by the terms and conditions set by the committee. The judge’s decision is final.
